Cell Phone Coverage:
ResNet has received several calls that Verizon cell phone reception is less than adequate on the BSC campus. Please know we have had serveral discussions with Verizon to let them know that their customers are unhappy with their cell phone reception. Unfortunately, Verizon has been less than enthusiastic to resolve this concern. We continue to work with Verizon to provide you better service. If you are unhappy with your Verizon reception, please do not hesitate to contact the Verizon customer support center at (800) 922-0204. Cellular service providers AT&T and Nextel/Sprint continue to provide great reception on our campus!
BSC Telephone Service:
Telephone and voicemal service is provided upon request only! Go to the <Telephone> section in the left column, click on the <request form>. Follow the instructions provided and your telephone service will be activated.
To All Resident Students:
As the end of the BSC academic year quickly approaches and you begin to prepare to move out of the reshalls, please note that the ethernet (green) computer cables and the coax TV cables will NOT BE COLLECTED! These cables are included in your ResNet fee and they are yours to keep. Please take the cables home with you. When you move back into the BSC residence halls in September '08, ResNet will provide you with all new cables!
If there are any questions, please do not hesitate to contact ResNet on x7999.
Good Luck with your final exams and have a safe summer!

Last night a Comcast computer glitch affected your television viewing on channel 61-HBO. Comcast inadvertently replaced the normal HBO Programming with HBO family programming. This morning Comcast reset our signal and our normal BSC HBO programming is working correctly.
We apologize for the considerable incovinience it may have caused you.
Thank you for your patience and understanding,
The Resnet Team

On Saturday morning, April 29th, at 6 a.m. the campus experienced a brief power outage which affected your network access. This power outage caused a problem with the way Clean Access resolves usernames and passwords which allowed guest access only. The issue was corrected on Sunday morning, April 30th at approx 11:30a.m. We apologize for any inconvenience this might have caused and we appreciate your patience during this time.
During this past holiday period, ResNet staff was busy working on some exciting network projects. The two projects of interest are the upgrade to the residence hall network and the expansion of the wireless network. A little bit more about these two projects…..
The first project that was completed before you returned from break was a total replacement of the network infrastructure equipment in every residence hall. The upgrade was needed to replace five year old equipment. With the upgrade, we expect faster speeds, more reliable service, and overall better response times when connecting to the network. Hopefully, you've already experienced these improvements in service when connecting to campus resources.
The second project, the expansion of the wireless network marks the continued improvements to the wireless system. During the break contractors finished the installation of needed wiring to allow for the installation of more access points in the residence halls. New wiring located in strategic locations, will dramatically improve wireless coverage. Just to give you an idea of the extended coverage this should bring, we currently have 300 access points on campus. By the end of spring semester we will have over 450 access points. Even more exciting, is that we are beginning to replace the existing access points with new equipment. The impact for students will be once again improved speeds and more reliable coverage. If you don't already know, our current wireless architecture is 802.11b running at 11mbps. Once we begin installing the new access points, you will experience speeds up to and including 54mbps with support for 802.11a/b/g.assuming you have the appropriate network card to take advantage of the new speeds and protocols.
Finally, not only have we been working in the residence halls to improve wireless coverage, but we have installed access points in the downtown of Bridgewater. The coverage extends from the Academy building all the way down Main St. to MacDonald's. This means that students will be able to connect to the college and the Internet while in the downtown area. Shortly, we will be connecting town merchants to the network so that students can pay for goods and services using their ConnectCard over the wireless network.
We hope that you are as excited about these projects as we are. You also should know that we believe it is important to give you the best and most reliable services while you are a ResNet student here at BSC, because after all, your ResNet fee is paying for these services. So we hope that you agree that it is a good use of your money.
Happy networking!
ResNet staff
Bridgewater State College was recently rated number 6 on Intel's list of top 50 most "unwired" campuses. Intel's 2nd Annual "Most Unwired College Campuses" survey ranks the top 50 U.S. college and university campuses according to greatest wireless Internet accessibility. ResNet deposited three dollars ($3) into your Connect Card account on Monday, September 26, 2005. The deposit was made due to problems with Internet service during opening week.
We hope your summer months have been enjoyable for you and your family. We have been busy preparing for the 2006 Academic year. This letter will serve as an outline for some of the programs, improvements, and other pertinent information related to 2006 ResNet service. We are eager to work closely with you in the months ahead. Best Wishes in the 2006 school year!
Some remindersWe encourage all students to create a link (add to your favorites) to the ResNet website. Important information and updates are on this site
When using a notebook in your room, please plug into the data jack. Our wireless network does allow you the flexibility to connect from the Res halls, however, you will find better performance if you connect directly into the jack. Please use your "wireless" connection only when a "wired" connection is not available.
All questions and concerns regarding wireless, please do not hesitate to call the Support Center on x2555.
ResNet has been working feverishly over your summer vacation to enhance services on campus.
Some long-awaited infrastructure changes which will dramaticly improve your internet service going forward have been completed. The changes were implemented unfortunately, not during a time of our choice, but rather in response to a problem with our carriers service. There are two major changes that you need to know:
The addition of RCN demonstrates how much we listen to your concerns and suggestions and how much we care about the quality of the ResNet service that we provide.
Showtime has been added to the cable TV lineup on channel 70. Remember, each room is equipped with one cable television outlet. ResNet has provided your room with one coax cable for your television. You may need to reprogram your television for CATV connection.
Thank you for your patience during this lengthy process. WE are happy to announce that our equipment upgrade is now complete. The BET (channel 69) can once again be included in your channel line up! If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact ResNet at x7999. Thank you.
As the end of the BSC academic year quickly approaches and you begin to gather your personal belongings, please note that this year your ethernet and coax cables will not be collected by ResNet.
Please take the green ethernet cable and the black or white television cable home with you. When you move back to BSC in September '07, simply bring the cable(s) with you, plug into the appropriate wall jack and you will be on-line or watching cable TV in no time!
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact ResNet at resnet@bridgew.edu or x7999.

BSC was recently informed that the Ruckus music service will no longer be available effective immediately. Unfortunately, we do not have any details regarding the Ruckus end of service. However, we are in the process of investigating alternative methods for legal music downloading in place of this service. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. |
